Horror on major airline flight as passengers 'shaken violently' scream 'we will die'
Passengers on a Turkish Airlines flight were left deeply shaken after experiencing horrifying turbulence as their aircraft tried to touch down amid a ferocious storm.
Footage from the nightmarish journey - which has since gone viral across social media - shows petrified travellers shrieking in terror as the plane appears to nosedive. The aircraft was travelling to Tunis from Istanbul when it hit brutal weather conditions while approaching Tunis-Carthage International Airport.
Those aboard recounted one of three frightening descent attempts, with the plane shuddering violently before pilots were compelled to abandon the landing effort.
During the third go, passengers reported the aircraft suddenly started falling, sparking widespread panic throughout the cabin.
Traveller Marina Maiskaya filmed the nightmare on her mobile, recording the moments when the plane was hammered across the skies by turbulence while horrified passengers around her recoiled in shock, reports the Express.
"The flight itself was smooth, but things turned absolutely terrifying as soon as we began our descent," she said of the ordeal, as per the New York Post. "I have never in my life feared for my life like that - and my mum was with me, too."
She added: "We were shaken violently each time, and on the third attempt, we actually started to plummet."
Video shared online shows also showed some shouting "we will die, we will die". One person on board claimed she felt the aircraft "fall down a few seconds, like free falling".
The harrowing incident left travellers convinced they might be facing genuine peril, with one describing the moment as feeling like the aircraft was starting to hurtle towards the earth. In the end, the pilots deemed it too hazardous to proceed towards Tunis, opting instead to divert the flight to Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport, approximately 60 miles south of Tunis.
Upon arrival, the plane landed without incident.
Miraculously, there have been no reports of injuries among those who were on board the flight.
Passengers later commended the Turkish Airlines pilots for their management of the perilous conditions and for ensuring both they and the aircraft landed safely in one piece.
"We made it through safely - perhaps thanks to the Turkish Airlines pilots," Ms Maiskaya said.
