Joao Gomes wants Liverpool move

Relegation is looming for Wolverhampton Wanderers and that could have massive implications on players deciding to leave this summer.

Despite a mini resurgence since the turn of the year, 20th placed Wolves are 15 points off 17th placed West Ham United with six games to play and face an almost impossible task of staying up this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes is a player who will almost definitely move on this summer with a whole host of clubs exploring the possibility of striking a deal for him.

The Brazil international has played 110 times for Wolves since joining in 2023 and has often shown fleeting signs of brilliance in a side that consistently find themselves struggling in the Premier League.

According to RTI SPORT, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool lead the race to sign the midfielder.

The report goes on to reveal that as it stands, Liverpool is Joao Gomes’ preferred destination.

He has been linked a couple times with the Reds over the last few years.

“Liverpool emerges as a destination that pleases Joao Gomes, who has already shown interest in wearing the club’s shirt.”

The battle for his signature, if Liverpool were to explore it, would be competitive.

As well as Chelsea and Manchester United, Liverpool would also face a battle with Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Flamengo who are all also interested in signing the Brazilian this summer.

Gomes’ contract with Wolves expires in 2028 and whilst that would usually give a club more room to negotiate, relegation may leave them with no choice but to let Gomes go for a smaller fee than they would’ve liked.

One final boost in this situation is that Joao Gomes’ priority is to continue in England, which will aid the Reds in any potential pursuit of the player this summer.

Liverpool won the league last year due to sheer dominance oftheir midfield trio in Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenebrch and Alexis Mac Allister.

This season they have not been clicking, with Szoboszlai the only player out of the three to show signs of their form from last season.

Liverpool are in desperate need of some energy and creativity in the middle of the park.

Florian Wirtz was bought to provide that but he has struggled during his first season in the Premier League.

Joao Gomes knows the league, and could help unlock the brilliance that we saw Florian Wirtz demonstrate so routinely in Germany.
