Ministry projects additional 72 thousand tons of waste

Image
Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq estimated an increase of 72 thousand tons in waste during the Eid al-Fitr exodus season. "Based on projections for the homecoming period based on figures by the Transportation Ministry, which estimates 146 million travelers, the projected (additional) waste during the 10-day homecoming period is around 72,300 tons," Minister Nurofiq stated after inspecting the Rest Area KM 57, Karawang, West Java He noted that one of the areas frequented by travelers, including rest areas, might account for about 10-20 percent of that waste generated. To tackle this issue, the ministry is partnering with state toll road operator PT Jasa Marga to manage waste at rest areas and has issued a circular for waste management during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Through this circular, the Environment Ministry supports area managers, such as PT Jasa Marga, in handling waste at their locations to prevent overloading final waste processing sites (TPA). Pochettino Sends Another 'Message' to Zendejas; Stands by His Decision

Image
Alejandro Zendejas is having a fantastic run with Club América, and many fans and analysts are even calling him the best player for 'Las Águilas' this season. So, naturally, there was a lot of buzz about him being called up by Mauricio Pochettino for the Nations League. But when the final roster for the U.S. Men's National Team was announced, neither Zendejas nor Cowell made the cut. While it wasn't a shocker for the Chivas forward, Zendejas' absence was a head-scratcher. Pochettino, however, had a strong message when asked about the players left out. Before the match against Panama, the Argentine coach was once again grilled about leaving Zendejas out. With a more serious and slightly annoyed tone, he defended his decision, sending another 'message' to the América star, saying he wanted to see other players in action. “Alejandro, like other players who didn't make the 23, we tried to find the right balance. We know him, we know what he can bring. We w...

Federal workers cast Trump's many Mar-a-Lago trips as working from home

Image
One of President Donald Trump ’s first actions upon entering the White House was to order federal employees to return to the office. The government workforce, he has repeatedly contended, could not be productive from home. “I happen to be a believer that you have to go to work. I don’t think you can work from home,” Trump said on Feb. 11. “Nobody’s going to work from home, they’re going to be going out, they’re going to play tennis, they’re going to play golf. They’re going to do a lot of things. They’re not working.” Three days later, Trump traveled to his sprawling Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach, where he remained for parts of six consecutive days, according to an NBC News tracker. On one of the days, Trump signed two executive orders and a memorandum. He also held an impromptu press conference. In other words, he worked from home. That weekend, he did what he accused federal workers of doing: He went golfing. Between Feb. 14 and Feb. 19, he golfed on four different days. Whil...

Former England player Dele Alli gets sent off after 9 minutes in first soccer

Image
Dele Alli ’s first professional appearance in more than two years lasted just nine minutes before he was sent off. The former England international was shown a straight red card late on in Como’s 2-1 loss at AC Milan on Saturday following a tackle on countryman Ruben Loftus-Cheek from behind. The 28-year-old Alli had only just come off the bench for his Como debut and his first appearance in a soccer match since last playing for Turkish club Besiktas in February 2023. Alli was initially shown a yellow card but it was upgraded to a red after a VAR review. His former Tottenham teammate Kyle Walker, who now plays for Milan, appeared to join the Como players in pleading with the referee not to send Alli off. Alli was one of English soccer’s biggest talents, a member of the England team that reached the World Cup semifinals in 2018 and a star of Mauricio Pochettino’s young Tottenham side that reached the Champions League final in 2019. However, the attacking midfielder’s career has der...

'Einstein's equations need to be refined': Tweaks to general relativity could finally explain what lies at the heart of a black hole

Image
Theoretical physicists have proposed a potential solution to one of the most puzzling problems in modern physics: the black hole singularity paradox. By modifying Einstein 's theory of general relativity, the center of a black hole with infinite curvature could be replaced by a highly curved but regular region of space-time, the researchers suggest in a new study. "Singularities are regions of the universe where space, time and matter are crushed and stretched into nonexistence," study co-author Robie Hennigar, a postdoctoral researcher at Durham University in the U.K., told Live Science via email. "This is a very serious problem, as if singularities were to really exist in our universe, it would be catastrophic for science. "We could no longer use the equations of physics to predict the future from the past and present," he continued. "For these reasons, most practising scientists expect that singularities are not physical, but are telling us that ge...

China learned from Trump's first trade war and changed its tactics when tariffs came again

Image
The leaders of both Canada and Mexico got on the phone with President Donald Trump this past week to seek solutions after he slapped tariffs on their countries, but China ’s president appears unlikely to make a similar call soon. Beijing, which unlike America's close partners and neighbors has been locked in a trade and tech war with the U.S. for years, is taking a different approach to Trump in his second term, making it clear that any negotiations should be conducted on equal footing. China’s leaders say they are open to talks, but they also made preparations for the higher U.S. tariffs, which have risen 20% since Trump took office seven weeks ago. Intent on not being caught off guard as they were during Trump's first term, the Chinese were ready with retaliatory measures — imposing their own taxes this past week on key U.S. farm imports and more. “As Washington escalates the tariff, Beijing doesn’t see other options but to retaliate,” said Sun Yun, director of the China pr...

With the successful conclusion of negotiations, Apple is now officially authorized to sell its latest product, the iPhone 16, in the country. Later, the Ministry of Industry will issue the TKDN certificate, while the Ministry of Communication and Digital will issue the distribution permit for the iPhone 16. This agreement is vital in showcasing Indonesia’s diplomacy, which is increasingly being considered in the global technology industry supply chain. Indonesia's strict enforcement of regulations initially prevented the company from selling the iPhone 16. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita admitted that negotiations with Apple were challenging as both parties were persistent in their respective interests, with the tug-of-war process lasting 5 months. ...

Image
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has hailed the impact of Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai under Arne Slot. The Hungarian has been in excellent form, especially in the last few weeks, and has scored seven times this season. "Yeah, I thought he was outstanding last season, probably one of the best signings of the season," Merson said on Sky Sports News. "I thought he started well, probably caught up with him towards the end of the season. "This season, this lad, he works hard. He runs off the ball. It’s an art, running off the ball. People want to work when they’ve got the ball at their feet; people really don’t want to work when they haven’t got the ball at their feet. "He will make runs for the team and look at the distances he covers but he’s not one of them who just runs anywhere. He’s very precise in when he makes his runs and he gets himself into good positions. I think he’s a top player, I really do. "But some people run and around and they don...
