Los Angeles Golf Club comes back to defeat New York in overtime

Image
Los Angeles Golf Club became the first team to reach the playoffs of the newly-launched Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) with a stunning comeback win – much to the delight of tennis great Serena Williams. Williams was in the crowd with her daughter, Olympia, at SoFi Center in Florida for Monday’s doubleheader of games, part of a star-studded audience which also included former NFL quarterback Eli Manning, recent Super Bowl champions Avonte Maddox and Dallas Goedert of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred. LA trailed 4-0 going into the 12th hole against New York Golf Club after outrageous putts from Rickie Fowler and Cameron Young, who drained an attempt from 38 feet on the fourth green. But with four holes remaining and LA given only a two percent chance of winning the match, the team of Sahith Theegala, Collin Morikawa and Tony Finau roared back, forcing overtime after six-time PGA Tour winner Morikawa successfully made a putt on the 14th hole. Image
Approximately 150-200 staff at Manchester United will be let go as the Premier League giant attempts to halt a run of five consecutive years of losses since 2019, the club said in a statement on Monday. These cuts to jobs – which are “subject to a consultation process with employees” – come on top of the 250 redundancies which were announced last year and are the latest in co-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s controversial moves since the British billionaire took charge of the club’s soccer operations in February 2024. In addition to the job cuts, the club has also taken the decision to end free lunches for staff, reduce executive bonuses and stop donations to certain charitable causes, according to Reuters. “We have lost money for the past five consecutive years. This cannot continue,” Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada said in the statement. “Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives...

Mikel Merino scores twice as Gunners close gap on Liverpool

Image
Arsenal have closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points after a 2-0 win over Leicester. With no ecognised striker available, Mikel Arteta opted for Leandro Trossard to lead the line which meant Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling - on a rare start - were tasked to provide support from the flanks. However, the lack of a focal point certainly affected Arsenal in the first-half. Whilst Nwaneri stood out with some nice touches and a couple of brilliant crosses into the box, the more experienced pair struggled. Trossard spurned two chances after failing to sort out his feet whilst Sterling was caught offside a number of times before seeing an effort deflected behind for a corner. Despite all of Arsenal’s possession, Leicester had the best chance right on the stroke of half-time when Victor Kristiansen picked out an unmarked Wilfred Ndidi in the area but the midfielder put his header wide. There was a slight improvement from the Gunners early in the second half as...

However, Milton Williams was fined $14,069 for dunking over the crossbar after the ensuing strip-sack.” In recent weeks, the Kansas City Chiefs have faced heavy criticism for allegedly receiving help from the referees in the playoffs. However, there wasn’t much controversy in the Super Bowl. In fact...
